This place of charm will surely steal your breath away, every corner, every space, every view is simply fascinating and I would dare to say that many of us probably left Colombia as a place to visit down below the list and, I believe that, if you enjoy the latin vibes you should seriously consider moving it to the top of the list of great places to visit.

As a historical fact, let me tell you that Cartagena was one of the most important ports in America since its foundation in the 16th century and, this was a time where most of its artistic and cultural heritage comes from. We can appreciate the architecture of the Spanish heritage, it clearly stands out, houses with small colorful balconies and beautiful vintage windows that will definitely paint every single view, giving you an amazing landscape everywhere you turn.

The city is divided into old and new Cartagena. In new Cartagena we can find the modern Cartagena, that basically is, the commercial, residential, hotel zones and of course, there is the pier where you will be able to finally meet with the sea. As for old Cartagena, it’s called it so to the part of the walled city, since during the time of its conquest the low-rise fortification was built to prevent future invasions, so this one, as its name says, is the oldest part and the most folkloric. Within the «Walled City«, you can find the beautiful houses with colorful balconies, museums, boutiques, restaurants, bars and more hotels.

Within my recommendations I think you definitely have to go to eat or at least have a drink in «Café del Mar», it is a hotspot because besides being not only a place for tourists, you can also run into locals as well, as it is the perfect place to enjoy a great sunset with regional music that will immediately spread the rumba trough your whole body and maybe even encourage you to dance as a native. If you are a night person I highly recommend you to keep lasting that rumba, so my recommendations would be to visit the «Babar», is a classic nightclub with DJ type of music inside the old Cartagena, or if you are willing to continue rumbeando you can go to «Café Havana» that is a very good option if you want to have a great Caribbean combo night.

As for the foodies, I recommend you having brunch at the «Sofitel Legend Santa Clara Hotel», I’m quite sure you will be delightful with its variety of dishes so much that you would want to try each one of them, it’s simply exquisite, the attention is very good and the place is charming, because it is adapted within an old «Hacienda» that began as a convent for more than 320 years, so you can imagine all the history and corners of the place.

The weather in Cartagena it’s really hot because it is a beach place, which will give you the chance to show off all your layers, so twist and do your thing. For that reason, I advise you to wear light, fresh and comfortable dresses. I opted for a pair of long dresses, a pair of short and light dresses and some basic denim shorts for the walk along the beach. In fact one of my statement pieces, considering it a «must» for warm places like Cartagena is the hat, and actually, you can find several boutiques of incredible models made of palm that you can even fold them without losing their shape, I do recommend them since they are very unique and different.

Because of its picturesque touch, I am quite sure that you will enjoy without fatigue walking through every street of this paradise as I did, so give yourself the chance to take photos everywhere, and please do not miss the downtown where you need to try the traditional delicious «Arepas» and if you have the opportunity to approach the palanqueras to have some small talk, do so as well, you can also buy a glass of fruit or take a nice pic with them. As for me, it was such a great experience, for sure you will fell in love with magic Cartagena.

Love, L i z

Les mando besos, L i z

Hello loves, today I want to share with you a heavenly place, Cartagena de Indias, Colombia.
